President’s Letter

I thought the standards would have gotten better with all the leaky condos, but that seems to have only affected the larger projects where there is a building envelope specialist on the job. No permits, licenses, or inspections are required for residential re-roofing so there has been no catalyst for change.

As a renovator I did my fair share of rot repairs that were caused by other peoples’ workmanship. It was a good business when the economy was a little slower in BC. But the most valuable thing I got from this work was a good understanding of where buildings leak, why and how to prevent it. Obviously the roof is one of the most important components of a buildings water-proofing system.

I saw a real need for a roofing company with a different approach. It is not true that all roofing companies and installers are not good and don’t care, it’s just there isn’t enough of the good ones that they are hard to find.

I saw a need for a company that helped the customer to decide what they needed by educating them enough so they can decide on their own what was right for them. I saw that the installers needed to be better trained and a quality inspection process needed to be put in. This may seem obvious, but as a renovator I was always amazed at the number of deficiencies that I would find on every roof inspected that would cause immediate or premature failure. I used to personally inspect every roof we had put on as I had to warranty my renovation projects and I didn’t want water getting in and damaging my new $30 000 kitchen cabinets or new hardwood floor.

We believe in hiring good people who care about our clients and their property. With that as a basis we can then teach them technical details and procedures.
